Hopefully you are thinking about family, friends, food, and all of the things in your life that you are thankful for this week. I know that many people are also thinking about shopping and Black Friday. Instead of buying more things, why not take a ride about 10 miles south of Las Vegas and experience Seven Magic Mountains?
Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone's art installation is well worth the trip. It's another example of art where you don't expect to see it. The seven towers of colorfully stacked boulders that stand more than 30 feet high remind us that humans have a real presence in the desert and therefore a real responsibility to preserve its beauty and ecosystem. The forms and colors may be unexpected, but they present us with more than an opportunity for photos and selfies. They give us an opportunity to reflect on the place that we occupy, like the Seven Magic Mountains, between the natural and artificial world.
